Planting for an exposed spot
In this front and side garden, planting has to do battle with high winds and dry soil. Having completed the boundary fencing here before, we were called back to design a sustainable planting scheme that would survive these conditions, and to blend in the garden’s functional elements, like the wood store. We designed structures as an extension of the fence, giving it a consistent structural core, and planted up the wood store roof so that every surface played a part. This coastal style gravel garden will thrive in its setting and bring colour and life to this corner of Ecclesall.

Pictorial Meadows' 'Botanical Skyline' brings colour to the wood store roof.

Planting and fencing are designed to grow into a green screen from the road, over time.

Drought resistant planting will thrive is this exposed spot.

A mix of grasses, evergreens and flowering perennials bring year-round colour and structure.

Multi-stem birch and magnolia are focal points in the planting.
