A playground for wildlife
In this leafy suburb, where our garden backed onto a path to allotments, close to a large local park, wildlife already abounds. Our client wanted to welcome the life into her garden, with water, bug-friendly spaces, bird and bee friendly planting and somewhere the local foxes and badgers might also like to hang out. Oh, and a spot for her own socialising and book clubs, which doubled as wine clubs, and made great use of this as a place for relaxing, sunsets, birdsong…It is a much loved space and was designed to ‘grow into’, with this keen propagator adding to the beds and pergolas over time.

From the dining area near the home, a small bridge crosses the garden-wide pond, starting the path through the garden to the sunken pergola.

A little paving defines the dining space that looks across the water, the beds and planting to the high trees which back the garden.

A shallow slope makes the pond accessible as a drinking spot to wildlife, as well as a home for frogs and water-loving insects.

Planting was designed to grow into lush banks of colour and fragrance.

Pots on the patio make for versatile planting and propagation space for our gardening client.

The wood store, beneath a sunken pergola at the end of the garden, is not only a shady, cool secluded seating area but a habitat for bug life, year round.
