Reviving lost plantbeds
In this large garden, a raised central plantbed was in need of more than a little TLC. With a lovely mature Acer thriving, new planting needed to work around that do more to support the wildlife of this conservation area. We started with clearing the overgrown, unloved beds and after some soil improvement, planted up a playground for pollinators. Adding to some of the remaining lavendars which we rescued, we worked with that colour scheme, adding dark oranges and reds, to bring colour, scent, and plenty of pollen.

A simple planting scheme rescued what had survived and reinvigorated unloved beds.

Over a single summer planting has flourished into a lush living space with year round interest.
Bee and butterfly-friendly species bring the planting to life.

Herbaceous planting brings reds, oranges, and deep purples out spring to autumn, echoing the changing foliage of the Acer.

We saved established lavendars, cut the surviving hebes into shape for structure and gave them and the rest of the soil a much needed organic boost.

The stunning acer was thriving, so it remained our focal point, bringing height and an inspirational colour palette.
