What Makes Our Gardens

There are four key elements that we really love to incorporate into our projects. They make a successful outdoor space for humans and wildlife, help to balance form, create flow and make clever use of every precious corner of our garden.

PLANTS

We work with some brilliant nurseries to plant up our gardens with carefully chosen varieties that bring colour and dynamism year round. Foliage, form, height, colour, texture bring depth and movement and make for beautiful spaces. But they can do more than please the eye, so we design planting that brings scent and sound, too, and we love wildflower planting and schemes that feed pollinators, birds and other wildlife, because that just adds to what your garden can give you.

STRUCTURE

A successful garden starts with good structure. Our landscaping uses boundaries to bring different purpose to each space and to keep your garden practical too, designing in space for bins, storage and access. Patios, pathways, decking, pergolas, green roofs and walls and other hard landscaping balance performance and visual impact, and mean your garden doesn’t just look beautiful, it also works well and creates flow. We source stone, timber, paving and other materials as locally as we can.

WATER

If there’s a chance, we like to try to get a pond in! It’s the best way to attract and support wildlife and it doesn’t have to add to the upkeep and it can be made child and pet safe. Even the smallest of water sources will transform your garden into a wildlife haven, and kids love to monitor the life water attracts. Water also allows us to incorporate the water-loving and marginal plants that will thrive there and in turn those attract different species of wildlife. From bird baths to bog gardens, water means more life and more to love about your garden.

WILDLIFE

The last century has seen the UK lose over 150 wildlife species. As habitats are lost, our gardens are vital to stopping the decline of bats, beetles, small mammal and bird numbers. Our designs can incorporate water, plants, log piles, rocks, nesting boxes, green roofs or walls and even feeding stations for birds, hedgehogs and more. We can choose native trees that support local wildlife with places to feed and nest, and planting and layout design that encourages all kinds of species to call your garden home. In turn, you’ll find the wildlife looks after your space, managing pests, pollinating and bringing life, colour and beauty.
