A new generation
This garden had been shaped around the needs of the three children, evolving around play equipment and so serving that function more than anything else. With the kids growing up, it was time for our clients to reclaim the space, so we cleared it completely, including the overgrown unloved lawn, keeping just the original paving. With areas of heavy shade from the woodland to the rear, we designed planting carefully to work with conditions so our busy couple could easily maintain.

Planting is designed to bring year-round flowering which was important to our clients.

At the back of the garden in its dampest spot, we built a double compost bay to make it easier to maintain a healthy garden.

Planting in shaded areas is designed to thrive in damp, darker conditions. Towards the house, in sunny spots, grasses and prairie planting bring colour, height and movement.

All we retained of the original garden was the position of the path, using slate to recreate it, we placed a bench at the end of for evening sun.
